thanks! :wub: i have emerged from my den... we lost power for 2 hrs, that's about it. and our office building was closed yesterday! fun! i like these small hurricanes. good excuse for loading up on junk food.

Hey Ravi. *waves* When I fire up my laptop the windows screen that used to be full screen size is now roughly 1/3 that size and centered. Same with some of my games now. What's up with that? The games are too damn small to play.

could be a problem with the video card or the video driver.

Right click on 'My Computer', choose Properties->Hardware->Device Manager

Open up 'Display Adapters' is there a Yellow Exclamation point near it?

Are you on XP? What brand is the laptop?

It's that old Dell that had a run in with the wine. I still have 98 SE in it. And I don't think those instructions get me where you thought they would but I opened device manager and it just tells me what I have. No sign of a problem there.

Oh! the video card could be fried.

Go to the dell site-> Home & Home Office -> Service & Support -> Downloads.
Enter your model number or service tag. Look for Video / Graphic / Display drivers. Intall it and see. I hope they still have drivers for 98SE.

Oh it's listed alright. Model and serial # are listed as a computer sold by a refurbisher and reseller through ebay. All very true cos that's where and who I bought it from. They also say that such computers aren't their problem. <_<

Okay, did the device manager list the name of the graphics chip? Dell uses either Intel or NVIDIA, and the refurbisher can't change that. We can get the driver from Intel / NVIDIA directly..
