Ask Ravi

ok okokokokokokokok

lets think this over....

safe mode works
safe mode works on basic drivers and processes, so the reason why regular windows doesnt find it is...drivers and processes

diagnostic startup is starting up with minimum processes but it DOE load the newer drivers. it doesnt solve it, so it must be the drivers
the device uses windows standard drivers, so it must be one of the updated drivers that causes the crap

so... im gonna uninstall SP 2 and see if it solves it

well...this is kinda good

the device now shows in the device manager but its disabled...driver thing, it seems
now im gonna try to fully update windows...then ill see about the damn writer

EDIT:
device works!!!!! praise be!! youre a hero ravi

so ill update windows, see if it still works, and then ill personally go to america and crap on bill gates' office desk

B) sweet!

look for updates though. SP2 has been out for sometime, so there's got to be a driver update and even a new frimware. Just out of curiosity, what brand/model is the damn thing?

its a philips dvdr1648

...

...

and no, the site doesnt offer drivers, only updates for drivers.
i can run it now, but i needed an earlier working driver, it seems

This is kind of random but is there a computer periferal (I can't spell) thing that allows you to transfer cassette tapes onto your computer? And if so where would I find such a thing.

you mean audio cassettes, video tapes or the old and very old (did i mentio old?) tapestream?

im sure there are devices for the last 2, but if its audio cassettes you mean...

For video cassettes (VHS) you need a video card with av inputs, then you plug the VCR into the video card and capture. I think there is a thing called Dazzle or something that is external that you could check out too.

Oh ok, I know its possible but I have no idea how you do it. You will have to wait for ravi to post. Did you try searching google?

Ok, I did google it and I found some software that will do what I want I just have to figure out how to hook my stereo to my computer.

I know but I'm all worn out from that last google excursion plus I couldn't tell you right off the top of my head what the back of my stereo and computer look like so I'll have to do it later.

I mean audio cassettes.
emmm.....ok

try this

if you have stereo (or perhaps even a regular radio) that has an earphone plug, play the tape. Hell, the best would be a walkman

instead of an earphone or headset, you use a cable, one of those with those plugs on both sides, you know (dont know if you have those, but if you dont, some computer speakers have those to connect the speakers with the pc)

one end of the cable goes into the headset/earphone plug, the other side goes to the audio input of your pc (you should have one, but there's a slight possibility you dont)
youll notice its the input cuz itll look like the earphone plug but color-coded (green)

then in windows go start, programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder, record and play the tape
