He called and said "OK it's gonna be $900 plus tax to fix the brakes."
We're like "OK well we can't afford that, what's the bare minimum you can work on to get it running properly?"
"Well I can do the whole rear system for $600.. rebuild the front calipers for another $116.."
So we talked it over and told him to just to the rear brakes. Then he's like "Well, if I go through an outside vendor I can do the entire system for $600 plus tax, but none of the parts will be under warranty."
OK so we're prolly totally suckers for wanting a warranty, but I do drive like a mad woman and I'm pretty hard on brakes, this is the third time I've had to have major work done, so we talked it over and decided to go for the $716 for the rear and the front calipers. So either he was bluffing us into spending more than we wanted or he's a totally seedy mechanic.

Sorry to hear that. He's pr'olly replacing your rotors with junk yard parts which is perfectly acceptable provided he has them turned/machined on a lathe. You could have completely new brakes and rotors for the whole car for about $400 & change if you knew how to do it yourselfso he'sstill soakingyou. <_< Probably.
