Make your own ringtone?

Anyone know if there is a way to make your own ringtone for your cellphone? I've heard of doing this from songs you have stored on your computer but I don't know much about that. Any ideas?

What kind of phone do you have?
I use motorola phone tools for mine, and it allows me to crop bits from any mp3 that I have.

I had an older phone before this one, and I used ring tone chop shop and it would allow the same thing, and it would text the final product to my phone.
