It must be this
Good guess, but no :P Pirate4x4.com Bulletin Board (PBB). A couple people in this thread started getting hurt feelings over some harmless banter; so I was saying they wouldn't last a day on the PBB with skin that thin. Por exemple:

This Thread

BTW, the "its Tuesday" style comments are in reference to an ongoing joke on the board that all of the new dumbasses always seem to post on Tuesdays. Amazing knowledge base on that forum... just don't ask something that is a waste of their time

Then I guess we're just generally nicer people here. It's easy to have thin skin when we make it a basic rule to not make fun of people for "stupid" questions and to welcome everyone with friendliness.

Maybe I should visit and sign up for this forum and ask a few "stupid" questions for the sake of of my own amusement. They can get as mad, be as rude, and talk all that geek shit if they want to. I'll internet curse anyone out...

Not counting that one asshole...

Well, I'd hope you have better things to spend your evening on than needlessly starting problems on another forum... but only you can decide what kind of person you are  They're just trying to help people out the same as you all; they just expect the questions to be up to a certain standard first.

Yes, the PBB can be rude/brash at times; but try to realize that this is not always without reason. Its the world's most hardcore rock crawling forum. Literally every professional rockcrawling team in the world is registered on that board with purpose-built vehicles worth well over $50k that are redefining the cutting edge of technology. I have read posts on there about products in use by the competition crowd that don't show up in stores or magazines until a year later. There's no other place on the web to get that level of inside information.

The downside to being on top is all the wanna-be's clinging to coat tails. There are about 72,000 members on that board. Of that, probably 15% has the level of knowledge that belongs on there. A good portion of the members are a step or two below that and are reading and learning and fabbing to get to the next level... and those are the people that post good questions that get good responses everyone can learn from. The remainder of the members are people who "think" they're hard-core because they just put 30" street tires and a chrome bumper on their Jeep Wrangler. Its not that their questions are stupid per se... more that they are 10 steps below where they should be to show up on that forum. That is why the "Newbie Forum" was created last year... so people would have a place to post entry-level questions without fear of being flamed or taking up space in the other forums where the high-level tech is going on. Someone who asks "whats the best 4x4 ever made" has completely missed the boat and isn't even at the Newbie Forum level. There are plenty of other forums more geared toward this crowd (jeepsunlimited for example); and they serve the purpose quite well. Once they realize its not what you buy, but how you build it that makes the difference; then they're ready to start reading on the PBB and getting something out of it. Once they actually START building and run into problems, then they are ready to post a question worth answering.

Going on the PBB and asking what size tires you can fit on a stock Trooper is like registering for the world poker tournament and then, once you get there, expecting the pros to teach you how to shuffle cards... they expect you to be past that point before showing up. Now consider the large amount of traffic the PBB gets and the fact those kinds of questions get asked hundreds of times a week and I'm sure you can see why people lose patience after awhile

Well if any of us lash out, it's usually after continuous assholery on behalf of that one particular offending party, wouldn't you say?

There's such a thing!? :o [/b][/quote]
Sure is :) You all have a passion for music, they have a passion for creating vehicles and then finding their limits... then changing the weak spots to overcome these limits... then finding the next weak spot... then eating ramen noodles for a month straight so they can afford new/better parts... its an ongoing and expensive hobby  Some are just lucky enough to become professionals and get paid bucks to do this.

Yes, I understand what you're saying but, they are still rude. You don't have respond like that, "The AMC Eagle Station Wagon. Ya Dumbshit! pointlessness right there would have got him the verbal smackdown. I don't care how annoying it gets when people don't do there homework before asking a question, that's rude. You could generally crush a person's spirit by responding with such animosity. You don't know what these people have to deal with on a daily basis, and BS like that isn't helping, and on the freakin internet no less. Standards my booty, it's mean. And you say they have a newbie's forum, then why not "kindly" direct that to them even if you have said so before. People will be people but, you don't have to bite there heads off about it.

Sorry, stuff like this angers me.

I'm failing to see how registering over there just to stir things up is "helping"

HOWEVER, when one a forum has one guy that continuously asks stupid ass questions, said guy deserves bashing.
