Donnie Darko

Lurve that song.

All around me are familiar faces
worn out places
worn out faces
bright and early for the daily races
going nowhere
going nowhere

It's a very very MAD world :(

My apologies if this has been answered somewhere, but my search of the "darko" posts didn't yield an answer. Just finally saw this movie and looked up the soundtrack/score music and listened to samples.

What's the FIRST piece of music from the ending credits? It starts directly after we see Gretchen waving at Donnie's mother, and is playing through the first part of the credits. Sounds sort of dirge-like, beautiful female voice singing hauntingly in another language (I think). Sounds familiar, maybe something "Classical" and well-known.

I noticed that "Ave Maria" is a song in the original score of this movie; thinking that might be it, I just downloaded the Donnie Darko soundtrack version of it and it is definitely not the same piece as the one in the ending credits. Similar sound to it, however. In fact I can't recall where Ave Maria was playing during the movie. Is the credit music maybe a different movement from the same piece? Ahh, my untrained ears.

Anyone know? Thanks!

Steve Baker & Carmen Daye - For Whom The Bell Tolls

pretty sure thats it

Yep, that's it! Thank you. Now that I know the name of it, I did a little research and found this (from part of the Wikipedia.org entry for "For Whom the Bell Tolls"):

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" is also the title of a haunting classical operatic composition by pianist Steve Baker and vocalist Carmen Daye. Among other collections, it can be most recently found on the original soundtrack to the Richard Kelly film Donnie Darko (Sanctuary Records 2004). See also Donnie Darko (soundtrack).

Such a beautiful piece. I knew I'd heard it elsewhere, but I'm not sure what other collections or soundtracks it's been on. Will do some more digging.

its a popular title for alot of peices of music, but little if none sound anything alike.

Does anyone know what song is playing when Gretchen shows up at Donnie's Halloween party?

Does anyone remember when the song "Gretchen Ross" was played in the movie? It's a short 52 second peice, you can listen to a sample of it on Itunes on the Donnie Darko soundtrack.

I saw the movie last night on TV for the first time. I am so glad I took philosophy in highschool, finally all those hours of reading and debating philosophy actually became useful.
