Some folks never heard the song that opens Steve Martin's film "Bowfinger." The song is "There Is Always One More Time" and was written by Doc Pomus and Ken Hirsch. The version used in the film was by Johnny Adams, a New Orleans singer known during his lifetime as the Tan Canary. The entire song was used to introduce the song, rather unusual to use so much of a song in a film. Must have been expensive. The song, as recorded by Adams, can be found on several of his Rounder Records releases. The song was also recorded by Harry Connick, Jr., B.B. King and Irma Thomas
(as "One More Time") and introduced by Ray Charles on a March of Dimes special years ago for which Pomus (who was crippled with polio) and Ken Hirsch had especially written the song. Pomus died in the early '90s. Ken Hirsch continues to thrive as a successful songwriter living in the Los Angeles area
