Best commercial ad song?

Bones Doming - "Violet" from the Panzer Dragoon Orta commercial
Dj Darkzone - "Infinity in your hands" from Midnight Club 2
That song by those guys in the champs commercial.

"Pressure Point" by The Zutons - Levi Jeans
"Jerk it Out" by Caesars - iPod Suffle
"Black Betty" by Spiderbait - GameBoy Advance (Mario Pinball)

Well you already named most of my favorites, but a couple that I didn't see that I really like are:

Stanton Moore - Prairie Sunset from an HP add where a wife gives her husband a grocery list of digital food pics.

and

Propellorheads - Take California; from I believe an early IPod ad.

Both songs I searched relentlessly for, only to find they were both from albums I already owned. How embarassing.

ps- I just registered, can someone tell me how I can get an image to show up? Do I have to upload my own? Every time I try it tells me it won't allow dynamic image links.

thanks,
greg

see this thread.

I have one or two favorites each year. For example, in 2002 it was great to hear Air's "Playground Love" (Levi's), but it was also great that Shuggie Otis' "Strawberry Letter 23" (Kellog's). In 2003 I really enjoyed Simian's "La Breeze" (AEO), but some songs were funny enough that I think they should make the cut (like Goldspot's "Wingman" commercial (Coors Light), and Liam Lynch's "United States of Whatever" (Playstation 2)). Last year it seems like there were two times as many good songs as normal being used as commercials, but I'd have to say, if I had to pick a favorite, it'd be Old 97's "Question" (Madden NFL Football) - only because that's one of my favorite songs anyway. In general, though, Apple should get an award for consistently picking amazing, not over-played (yet) music for their commercials.

Hyundai Tuscon - Fatboy Slim, "the World is Made up of A Little bit of This and a Little bit of that."

Hummer - Ratatat, "Seventeen Years." (despite the fact that, I too, hate Hummer).

Offce Max - the Spinners, "Rubberband Man." (I know it's corny, but it's a fun tune, no?)

mojave 3 AND ratatat?! who do they think they are anyway?

Did you ever think years ago that a band on a commercial could be a viable band? Probably not....and so looking over the list of bands mentioned above, i see names like the "walkmen" and "goldspot"....and i checked out their music on i tunes...WOW....i mean these are two great bands....it's amazing how much crossover potential there is....if you haven't checked out goldspot or the walkmen, make sure you do....here are their websites: www.marcata.net/walkmen, and www.goldspot.net...they both just released some amazing albums! and goldspot's music is nothing like the wingman song...in fact it's a different singer (who's actually amazing) and really great songs.

I actually posted a similar comment on the favorite commercial music post section, but i thought i'd say that i'm glad that bands are now embracing getting their music in commercials---despite the fact that the move is out of desperate times where the financial avenues for artists are now limited. But here is my list of the coolest bands to have songs in commercials. And OH!! the music of these bands is 100 X cooler than what's on the commercials..

In no particular order:

--The Walkmen (www.marcata.net/walkmen)
-Goldspot (www.goldspot.net)
-Modest mouse

Check out these bands on i tunes, or on their websites...the walkmen have a great song "The Rat" and Goldspot has a bunch of great songs--"Time Bomb" or "Rewind"....anyway, just like commercials are now helping us discover great music, these forums should be a place to embrace the fact that commercialism has introduced us to some great art....thoughts?

Diet Coke "Starry Eyed Surprise" by Paul Oakenfold

Volkswagen “Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra

Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper “Mahna, Mahna” by Animal & The Muppets

Special K Cereal “Girl From Ipanema” by Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto

Target “Say Something New” by The Concretes

Nike Pro for Athletes (aka ‘Warriors’) “Migration” by Cop Shoot Cop

Hallmark Easter Basket “Over The Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

Have to second a few:

Hyundai Tucson: Fatboy Slim -- "A Little Bit Of..."

Target: The Concretes -- “Say Something New”

Diet Coke: Paul Oakenfold -- "Starry-Eyed Surprise"

And let me add:

(Some car... :duh: ): Fisher -- "Beautiful World"

LR3/Discovery3: The Sonics (?) -- "Have Love, Will Travel"
(Irritating beyond all reason, but catchy and effective...)

Kia Sportage: Goat/boy -- "Great Life"

Kohl's: "(????)" -- "Do You Believe In Magic"
(Can anyone tell me if that's a "house-blend" track or not?
I want it, if it's a "real" song and not a proprietary cover...)

Thermasilk: Ashlee (?) Simpson -- "(Whatever the title is... :duh: )"

And one Enya-like vocal from a compact-car commercial that still haunts me to this day. Indeed, it was the first commercial I asked about on here...

There are a few cues from commercials I'd call myself interested in, though I've refrained from asking about them fearing disappointment.
This comes from automatically assuming the instrumentals/vocal cues/covers are "house-blends" and not available for common listening.
If I didn't bother to ask, I suppose the song just didn't stick with me enough.

Im just wondering what everyones favorite or most liked song ever in an ad is?
Preferably one you had never heard pior to seeing the ad

Well, one of my favorites is still "Lacrimosa" from the Spiderman 2 Trailer. It's the song that brought me to this website!

^_^;; Do songs from trailers count in this thread?

My favorite is also the one that brought me here. 'Horndog' by Overseer from a Mitsubishi commercial.

I forgot what song has brought me to this website, but one of my favorites is "I'd Rather Go Blind" by Etta James in the beer commercial.

Gabe Dixon Band - All Will Be Well

It was used in numerous promos for NBC's now-cancelled "Conviction."

Three stand out for me...there'd be more, but these are the ones where I didn't already like the song. These three had songs that just fit....*perfectly* with the ad

Nike: Footwear "Rock & Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" by AC/DC
Dockers: Pants "Don't Wait Too Long" by Madeline Peyroux
Mercedes Benz: No One Ever Poses With Their Toaster "Au Reve" by Cassius

Don't Save Us From the Flames by M83
it was played during a mitsubishi commercial.

Definitely "Galang" by M.I.A. from the Honda commercial. It fits the commercial really well, and it makes me actually have a small amount of respect for Honda.
