I heard a song at work, it's driving me insane. It sounds like a remixed Annie Lennox (or the Eurythmics) song, the lyrics i can pick up are along the lines of "People... oh oh oh... desire"

Nah, I'm pretty sure it wasn't No More I Love You's. I'm honestly not even 100% sure it was Annie Lennox. Any other female artists that sound like her maybe?
