Link thefted from Tim:

The only time I've agreed with this toolbag.
It sounded to me like O'Reilly weasled out of an honest answer.

It's extremely unlikely that the guy will win. Years ago there was a case which was even more extreme than this:

A woman approached a scientist to be a sperm donor for in-vitro fertilization.
The guy agreed, on the condition that a contract be drawn, freeing him of parental responsibilities. (He had several kids with his wife, who also agreed with the whole deal)
They drew up the contract, with all parties represented by lawyers.
When the kid was about 6 or 7 the mother declared bankrupcy, and sued the guy for child care payments.
Even with the contract, the judge ruled in favor of the mother: Citing that even though the contract was legally enforcible, he could not do that because the 'best interests of the child' outweighs any legal agreements.
Even though I think this was unfair to the guy, I think that was the right decision.

So there's a precedence set, and this guy definitely has even lesser chance of winning.

O'Rielly has trouble keeping IT inside his pants too, so I think probably sympathizes with the guy. But being a conservative mouthpiece he has to say otherwise. That's why he said "Morally yes, legally no". Well, didn't he agree with the lawyer then? A lawyer's job is to try and enforce legality, not morality. Then why grill him on morality? Isn't it morally wrong to send kids to die in Iraq without giving a reason or a plan? Let's see him grill Bush on that!

I think the guy should step up, because that's the MORALLY right thing to do. (She's just asking for child support, which is just basic cost of feeding/clothing etc.). But the legal issues should be ironed out. Since the guy had apparenly no say in being a parent, and the whole issue is the kid's well being, I think the money should go ONLY to the kid's expenses. Also, proportional to each parents incomes. But I don't think such limitations exist today... In these type of cases, I think it should.

Ravi you're so hot.

Yeah the bit at the end of what you said about child support being proportional to parents' income, that hits home. My dad was making $54k a year, my mom was homeless. My dad sued my mom for child support and won, and my mom had to switch between living in a car with my baby half-brother and crashing on her own parents' couch for a few years because she had to pay my dad $600 for us two kids. She worked tables at Denny's to scrape this together, my dad then proceeded to snort and smoke it away and then threaten her with lawyers whenever she was late. The most ridiculous part is that the judges all knew her situation and still ordered the payment.
