The music in question can be heard here: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoqCcHQZlWw[/ame]

I've been digging for awhile, and I'm at a loss. I've tried to match it to something by Immediate Music, Two Steps From Hell, X-Ray Dog, and the like, but I haven't found it so far (not to say that it's not one of them, of course).

What IS that? Talk about impressive music.

George Fenton was assigned as the composer for many of Discovery Channels series, including Life. I did some searching, but the sountrack for Life is not available yet, as it isn't out until march, and I wasn't able to hear the entire song anywhere online, only part of the commercial. I was eager to find, because I love scores, and this is a great one. I will keep my eyes and ears open in the next few months!

I believe this is the same song but possibly a different variation. You could try looking at the same group that composed the song used for the Avatar trailer, Audio Machine.

It can also be found here:

That second link is definitely it, and yeah, the first sounds awfully close. Thanks for the tips. I've been listening through some of the Audio Machine uploads on YouTube, but no luck yet; anyone?

Found it. The track is "From Within" from West One Music.

I found this on another board while searching for a different song--hope it helps!

"Discovery Channel's LIFE
The music was composed by "Musikvergnuegen" (http://www.musikvergnuegen.com/mv_web_db/) and the vocalist is Lisbeth Scott (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisbeth_Scott)"

Thanks for this; they've got some nice stuff.

Life Trailer Music (Discovery)

Does anyone know what the music in this trailer is? It is amazing, but no one seems to know what it is.

Actually ... it sounded very familiar to some other work that I'm not sure if Lisbeth Scott was a part of. I'm pretty sure it was her preforming the vocals on the Extended Score of the movie "The Island". I think this is where the track is from but I'm not sure. I'll be checking my copy of the score in a bit.

I was wrong. Thought I'd heard some "African choir" in "The Island" score but turns out (although it's not the same track) that at the 1:52 mark of track 17, "Now We Are Free" of the "Gladiator" score is what I had in my head that matched the epic track used in this LIFE trailer.

It's gonna bug the HELL out of me to not have the collection the track in question is on. - lol - Keep up the good work and I hope to find it soon. I'll be watching this thread for updates.

Not necessarily that time in the track, but that piece is what his clip reminds me of also. Lisa Gerrard was behind that, if memory serves. Maybe that's of some use.

Wow ... similar technique then, right? Either way ... all of the scores for the "LIFE" trailer, "Gladiator" and "The Island" play my spine like a harp, which is SOOO addictive!! - lol

Still hope to track down the song Discovery used for their trailer. Mmmm.

Someone will dig it up eventually. Always happens.

And yes, definitely similar -- was just saying that it sounds more like the solo vocal parts of the track as opposed to the choir-ish middle portions.

Okay guys ... I finally got word about the song. No details as far as title, track number, album ... but it was confirmed by Lisabeth Scott (or her associates) directly off of her site. I jumped onto the page to sign up for her mailing list, and in my message inquired about it.

This is what was sent back to me ...

"Hello lovely person,
yes we will be recording the long version in the next week or so and it will be available after that. I will send out an email to my email list, which you are now on, and let everyone know!
all the best,
Lisbeth

Very cool. Thank you for updating us on that; whenever you do get more information, please keep us posted!

(That's the first time I've seen "lovely person" used as a greeting... neat.)

The pleasure is mine.

I never really even imagined there were geeks like me out there, who have over time, become movie score connoisseurs. - lol

(even though this isn't a movie score, it is so similar to those I already am familiar with ... it's drivin me nuts waitin for the release of this epic song)

Cheers!

For a while, I'd hoped that a soundtrack would possibly appear on iTunes with that song from the original trailer on it (The one featuring vocals by Lisbeth Scott). Planet Earth was accompanied by a soundtrack, and I love that one. I hope they'll release one sometime this spring-but for the trailer music, I took to looking online. Sometimes these things have a way of finding themselves on youtube...
Came across this forum and am so glad I did.

I just wanted to say that Lisbeth's website has been updated, and it states on the front page that Lisbeth is singing that song, but that John Luker is the one who wrote it. (He did the Deadliest Catch promo as well).

I've been waiting and wanting this song as well. It was driving me nuts. So glad to see I'm not the only one!
