Have you guys ever written down a few tips? :shifty:
I've written IOU's for regular servers.

Me too, that's why the IOU's. I overtip like a mad woman, especially when the waitress was particularly bad.

Me too! I have this friend that I refuse to go out to eat with any more cause he is the worst tipper and he actually used to wait tables with me! He's an awful customer and not polite at all. He purposely runs them all over the place and just waits on them to screw up and he always finds a reason to leave a bad tip.

I know right? And what makes it worse is that he leaves the "slap in the face tip." You know the ones that are like "keep the change" and you end up with like a .23 tip. It's a slap in the face and you would rather get stiffed then take that crap.

For serious. My mom would come home from busting ass at Denny's all day and would just cry and cry because she'd only made $30 in tips from a double shift. I don't give a shit if my drink is late, chances are that if the woman serving my dinner is working at Denny's, she's probably not there for the fun atmosphere and superb fringe benefits. A middle-aged woman waiting tables is quite possibly supporting a family and what the hell is an extra $5 to me in the long run? I won't miss it, and it'll make her day.

That's how I feel. It pisses me off when people say something like, "well, it's not my fault they chose to work there!"

i've never worked in restaurant, but i always leave 5 to 7 dollars for a tip, even if my friends are leaving a tip too.

:)

I've seen people pull out calculators and figure out exactly 15%, but I just do this:

Say the total is $17.60. I round up to the nearest ten ($20.00) and find 10% of that ($2.00) then double it ($4.00). That way they're guaranteed to always get at least 20%.

Then I usually add another $2 or $3 cause it just seems like $4 ain't much of a tip. It drives my husband crazy but he's a computer geek, I can't expect him to understand these things.

*shrug* Supposedly that's the minimum you should give, but yeah, it seems ridiculously low.

It is pretty low I think, but yeah, I pretty much do that too Melissa. And if I'm really impressed with the service then I leave quite a bit.

Oh, and there's also the people that come in with a coupon. Let's say their coupon says "free entree" with purchase of another. Okay so one entree let's say is $9.00. they get two. Their ticket is now $18. But they get soda so add two $1.50's so now we're at $21.00 right and then tax brings that up more but I'm too lazy to figure that so they slap their little hand coupon on there and you deduct $9.00. Now they are back down to$12.00 plus tax. Then they pay and tip you 15% of the 12.00 not the 21.00. Cause the waitress still has to claim 15% of 21.00 not 12.00.

See I was lucky there, we didn't claim our tips where I worked. But still, yeah. <_<

Careful now, I used to wait tables.
No, no I haven't done it either. I'm ultra nice to waiters/waitresses. They are indeed handling MY food. I'd been damned if I see some saliva/hair/boogers on my hamburger.

Oh, and I tip 15% from my total bill. I know how it is to deal with stupid ass people daily, so I'm one of the few people that will brighten their day. :)

I tip $5, no more, no less. And I'm a cheap ass bastard so I'll never run into the situation where $5 is less than 15% of my bill so I'm good.

 Nice. LAst night I had a table and I was trying to woo them into a dessert and every dish he was like no no no no so finally he said ''Erika if I get a dessert that's going into your tip money'' I said ok no dessert folks. We laughed. But yea I'm really wierd. I know I give really good service. Im the server that's like ''How is everything?" and makes them laugh. So when I go out to eat and I think they did better than me, I tip fat. But if it was plan flat out bad and there was no excuse for it, like busy or something, then tip is ok.

Have yall seen waiting?
