What are your favorite Video Game Soundtracks?

The best video game melody ever was obviously... the Super Mario Bros theme!

As for actual soundtracks, Total Annihilation had an orchestral soundtrack that fit the grand scope of the game well.

The soundtrack for the old computer game "Interstate 76" was great. Sounded like funky 70's television/movie/porno music.
Good call. Great soundtrack for an early-mid 90's computer game.

Vocally, I think Final Fantasy X-2 has the best sound-track.

Instrumentally, Final Fantasy XI. I absolutely love the sountrack / ingame music in XI.
FFXI and X-2? Yuck...Have you even played FFVI and FFIV?

My all time favorite game soundtracks:

Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
(FF3 for SNES has the best soundtrack of all the FF games)
Chrono Trigger

All 3 have awsome music that accompany the story events well, and sound good on their own. If only Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda could have produced the music for these three games for the Playstation's superior sounding hardware, alas...

Double Dragon (old it is, but the melodies are solid)

Streets of Rage (when first this came out, who didn't say 'whoa!?')

Street Fighter EX + alpha (Great soundtrack; so underrated) :(

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (my 2nd favorite game soundtrack)

Command & Conquer: Red Alert
My all time favorite game soundtrack. So many songs, and they're all good! Hell March in particular is so darn good, and I'm not even a metal fan! For those who didn't buy it when it came out, check out Frank Klepacki's web page. If you scroll to the bottom, you'll see a music player that will play tracks from all the C&C games he scored in their entirety!
You pretty much have all my choices. Excellent tastes, SchoolZone. Anyone who names a soundtrack from the 32-bit generation and on, just doesn't appreciate the quality and musical intellect that went into the best 16-bit soundtracks. Given how limited the hardware was back then, the composition of the music had to be top notch. The best soundtracks ever made are in no particular order:

Secret of Mana - (SNES: Hikori Kikuta). Incredible variaton in tones and moods. Touches all emotions from exuberant joy to morbid sadness.

Final Fantasy IV and VI - (SNES: Nobuo Uematsu). Doesn't really need much said. These two soundtracks were masterpieces from nearly start to finish. Destroys all the rest of the FFs. If you young'uns think FFVII and beyond are good, go back to the SNES versions to hear true quality.

Chrono Trigger - (SNES: Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu, Noriko Matsueda). Another masterpiece from some of the best composers of the time. This is right up there with FFVI as probably being overall the best composed soundtrack of all time.

Streets of Rage - (Genesis:Yuzo Koshiro). Major props to SchoolZone and any others who recognize this soundtrack for totally trailblazing the concept of video game soundtracks. Given the Sega Gensis' pathetic audio synthesizer, this game pushed the hardware to the limits and found cool, clever ways to create effects the system shouldn't have been able to handle. Amazing, upbeat, catchy, addictive tunes. While not a lot of diversity, every track is unique and full of adrenaline.

Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt and pong :nerd: and GTA:Vice City

Megarace
Stife
Sonic 2
Iron Sword II
Soul Blazer
and a few others...I dont know why I dig these..but they are all really hard to find.

But I think these games have awesome soundtracks, I dont know why most people dont remember them.

America's Army:Rise of a Soldier. A lot of rock music, i just can't find any of the names of them. help would be much appreciated.

Driv3r has a great soundtrack. Apart from the many already great soundtracks mentioned, I would add the music off GT1, Ash - "Loose Control" probly tops best song in the GT series by far in my book.

I like both the Metal Gear Solid 2/3 songs. Especially the MGS 2 Boss Battle theme.
A also like the GTA III Head Radio tracks.

I liked the Battlefield Vietnam soundtrack, but I loved the Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory soundtrack.

Yeah, I liked Ocarina of Time music too. Most of Koji Kondo's work have this catchy, infectious quality.

Just to throw some off the top of my head...

Earthbound (SNES)
Super Mario RPG (SNES)

World of Warcraft (PC)..check out Seasons of War if you like orchestra/choir etc

Kingdom Hearts (PS2)

Final Fantasy X, VII, VIII, X, XI (PC/PS2/SNES) Along with others but..

Perfect Dark 1/0 (N64/360)

Contra (NES/SNES)

Metroid (NES/SNES/GCN) I'm sure you know of it but check out Stemage at Metroidmetal.com

Others but those are just a few =P
