Well, what you describe fits the Neo-Swing genre pretty well (basically, a much more heavy reliance on drumbeats, along with a slightly accelerated tempo)...for thet I like the Cherry Poppin' Daddies quite well, followed closely by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Brian Setzer Orchestra. For songs I especially like Brown Derby Jump and Zoot Suit Riot by Cherry Poppin' Daddies, and all three have some rousing takes on the classics "Sing, Sing, Sing" and "In the Mood". At stores youc an also get "Satin Doll" by the Brian Maxwell Orchestra which has Neo-Swing takes on a ton of classics.

For classics, I agree, the Glenn Miller Band is a great one to start with, not to mention Benny Goodman. Cab Calloway had some good ones, too. "Sing, Sing, Sing" and "In the Mood" are ones to look for here, too, and I have always enjoyed "Song of India", although it's not as upbeat or jazzy as others.
