I heard a song on the radio earlier today. It's an older song, the band reminded me of REM a bit, and the only lyrics I can remember to it were

"I want you to be.....closer to me" or something extremely close to that. Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is a pretty wild guess, but if you misheard the lyrics a little bit, it could be "Closer to Free" by the BoDeans (iTunes). I feel like they would fit the description of being "a bit like REM."
