Cutting Avis Help

For some reason when I cut avis an error occurs.
It says

The Index list is shorter than the contents of
C:/d.avi

And it screws up the output

Does anyone know how to fix this or a program where I can take a piece of an avi file out and save the other part as a whole?

It has to be free though

VirtualDub can fix that problem.

When ever I save the file in Video Dub it comes out to be an uncompressed AVI. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or have a good video compressor?

That's because you haven't chosen a codec for video compression. It's under Video->Compression, i believe. There you can choose any of the codecs you have installed on your machine. You can set all the variables there, like frame rate, bitrate, number of passes, etc. Virtual Dub will then run the codec on an external thread.

I don't have VirtualDub on this machine... So if you have problems let me know tomorrow...
