Múm's music is indeed used in the film. That's all I know so far.

I'm not sure that Asobi Seksu song is right...it doesn't fit what I'm hearing in the trailer.
It definitely sounds like mum, but I can't identify which song.
Anyone else out there have an idea?

The song is Layers by Asobi Seksu.
It is not Asobi Seksu's Layers that is used in the trailer of this film. I think a confusion has arisen a bit. Layers was used for the trailer of Treeless Mountain, created/directed by So Yong Kim, who happens to be the life partner of the creator/director of The Exploding Girl. I've searched through some of Múm's songs but haven't had any luck in finding a match to the one from the trailer ...

Havn't heard this Mum song before, but there is no doubt that it sounds like their stuff, will keep looking because i really would like it for a review im doing of the trailer.
Hey. I've been following this thread since the first post desperate to find out what that song was called. I suppose people have found out about it elsewhere now, and not posted back here, but I just found this:

There's also info in the comments on the trailers Youtube page:

So yeah, basically the song's called 'hvernig á að særa vini sína' (how to hurt your friends) by Múm's old band Andhéri.
Andhéri had one EP out in 1997 called Fallegir Ósigrar, but it doesn't have that song!
Seems like a lot of people are desperate for this song, but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere. It's very frustrating because that song really is something else, absolutely beautiful. I must've watched the trailer a hundred times.
If anyone finds it please post back!
