Edit: Ive looked it up a little more. Maybe its was a misconception that Mammas And The Pappas did a version because they sound similar. Doesn’t look like they did a version at all!

A friend and I got into a debate over who did the original verion of the song out of Scott Mckenzie and The Mammas And Pappas.

Google isnt much help as I wouldnt have a clue on some good keyword. Wondering if anyone could help me out.

Scott McKenzie performed it, but Johnn Phillips of the The Mamas and The Papas wrote it.
